Wonderful, Merciful Savior/There Is No Other Name, Steve Camp

A young Steve Camp

In doing these music posts, I am always looking for music that brings Joy and Glory to our Great Savior! I have been looking for this music 'Wonderful, Merciful Savior' on You Tube for a while! But I just found it, and so am starting in with a thankful heart!

Steve Camp is "well-known for his strong views that Christian musicians are called to make direct, uncompromising music that confronts the world with the message of the Scriptures. Following Martin Luther's 95 thesis, on Reformation Day (October 31), 1998, he sent out his own 107 theses calling for a reformation in contemporary Christian music."

As a young man, he was encouraged by friend Keith Green to take a deeper stand for the gospel of Jesus, which he has done ever since. Once John MacArthur introduced at a him as "a Keith Green with theology". When studying music and business, he received a working knowledge of Scripture and theology, mastering the Greek language, and he has accomplished a library of historical and theological works.

Radio teaching

Here are some of the things he has to say about MERCY:

""O give thanks unto the Lord: for He is good, for His mercy endureth forever" (Psalm 136:1). For this perfection of the Divine character God is greatly to be praised. Three times over in as many verses does the Psalmist here call upon the saints to give thanks unto the Lord for this adorable attribute. And surely this is the least that can be asked for from those who have been such bounteous gainers by it."

" His mercy is "great" (1 Kings 3:6), "plenteous" (Psalm 86:5), "tender" (Luke 1:78), "abundant" (1 Peter 1:3); it is "from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear Him" (Psalm 103:17). Well may we say with the Psalmist, "I will sing aloud of Thy mercy" (Psalm 59:16). "

Lyrics:

''THERE IS NO OTHER NAME''
He is Lord of heaven, Lord of earth
Our prophet, Priest and King
He has triumphed o'er sin's fatal curse

O death were is thy sting

There is no other name
There is no other name
Under heaven, whereby we are saved

There is no other name
Jesus that name,
Jehovah saves
O seed of Abraham By the blood of His cross
He has laid Salvation's perfect plan

''WONDERFUL MERCIFUL SAVIOR''
Wonderful, merciful Saviour
Precious Redeemer and Friend
Who would have thought that a Lamb could

Rescue the souls of men
Oh, You rescue the souls of men

Counselor, Comforter, Keeper

Spirit we long to embrace
You offer hope when our hearts have
Hopelessly lost the way
Oh, we hopelessly lost the way

You are the One that we praise

You are the One we adore

You give the healing and grace

Our hearts always hunger for
Oh, our hearts always hunger for

Almighty, Infinite Father
Faithfully loving
Your own
Here in our weakness You find us
Falling before Your throne

Oh, we're falling before Your throne

The Mark Of A Man Of God, Steve Camp/Bonhoeffer

Today's music is about great men of God, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer can be counted among them. He is one of my heroes. He worked tirelessly to rouse the dead and dying church in Germany, and finally went abroad to America to raise the alarm, and hopefully, find a believing community. You will be swept away by the timeliness of Eric Metaxas' book Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy. It reveals the courage, wisdom, and selflessness of this man of God as well as his courtship. He warned the world then, and he is warning us again through his life's work. Let us take heed in light of where we are as a lethargic church and morally bankrupt nation today!

Hitler leaving the Marine Church in Wilhelmshaven, 1931. It was a picture widely used in Nazi propaganda. Many in the church who had supported the church's embrace of Nazism realized too late that the Nazi support of morality and Christianity was a very thin facade indeed.

Singer/songwriter Steve Camp's
The Mark Of A Man Of God is complimented with photos of the great heroes of the church. It describes exactly how Bonhoeffer lived his short life.We need fathers, husbands, and sons to "brace up like a man." Job 40:7 (see Job Suite by Michael Card/Dec 2010). I especially love the words of the TAG at the end of the lyrics!

Lyrics:
A godly man is such a rarity today So many start, strong and true, and quickly fall away - A godly man will take his stand he can't be bought or sold - Hand to the plow, he won't look back though other hearts turn cold - He keeps the faith and keeps his conscience clear He lives this life of grace through all his years

chorus:

The mark of a man of God is what he's faithful to,
and what he's fleeing from and what he's fighting for -
the heart of a man of God is what he daily pursues,
his family, friends, the Word, the church and worship of the Lord -
The godly man daily takes up the cross of Christ
and faithfully follows Him as a living sacrifice.

He’s not ashamed of the gospel, his sufficiency's in Christ
The power of integrity is the passion of his life

Instead of reckless faith, he has proven that his faith works

The ultimate priority, the Master's plan for the church

Saved without a doubt because his first love is the Lord
And the gospel according to Jesus is the truth he would die for

(chorus)

Bridge
He lives his life to teach the Word, in season and in not
For he fears more than any man, the approval of his God

He lovingly, yet firmly leads those placed within his care

The power of his ministry is that he is a man of prayer

The godly man takes a young Timothy like me and teaches me to run the race to carry on this life of grace He sets the mark and we keep the pace with this man of God.

Supporting Scriptures:
"The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away." Matthew 13:20-21

"Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”
Luke 9: 62

"Anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me." Matthew 10: 38-39

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek." Romans 1:16

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service." Romans 12:1

"Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching." 2 Timothy 4:2

"Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body." 1 Corinthians 6:18

Consider the Cost, by Steve Camp

This passionate song says it all.

In Reflection on Luke 14: 25-33 Alyce MacKenzie speaks of this: "The grace of God is not cheap grace. It requires a response. One can only receive the grace of God with open hands, and to open those hands one must let go of all that would frustrate the reception of that grace. Jesus refers to this letting go as repentance…It is foolish and damning to answer the invitation if one is not willing to repent. Half-hearted disciples RSVP to the messianic banquet and then find excuses not to attend (14:18-10). They come to the shore but won’t get in the boat with Jesus because rough waters might await them (Matthew 8:18-22). They put their hand to the plough and look back (Luke 9:62).They “taste the heavenly gift, and share in the Holy Spirit …and then they fall away” (Hebrews 6:5,6).

This reminds me of a monkey who had gotten his hand trapped inside a bottle. He had seen candy in it and upon grasping it in his fist, would not let it go for anything! No one can reason with a monkey. If he would let go of the tempting candy and open his fist... he would get free of this trap. So it is with us!

"Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6

Lyrics:
To obey is better than sacrifice- and to hearken than the fat of rams
For what will a man give for his own life... houses or money... land
There's a way that seems right to you - but in the end it leads only to death
Come unto Him all ye weary - come and find your rest

CHORUS:
Consider the cost of building a tower - it's a narrow way that you must come - For to do the will of the Father - is to follow the Son - to love Him more than father or mother - to love Him more than even your own flesh - to give all that you are,
for all that He is - this is the Gospel according to Jesus
Many will say, "Lord, Lord" on that day - look what we've done in Your name
"We've prophesied and performed many miracles - and Lord, even demons obeyed"
But He will declare unto them - the most terrifying words of truth. He'll say,
"Depart from me, ye workers of iniquity for I, I have never known you!"

REPEAT CHORUS

BRIDGE:
"Oh foolish man, how you build on the sand - trusting in your goodness to save!
For when the rain falls, and the flood breaks the walls you will be swept away!
But blessed is he who builds on the Rock - who takes Jesus as Lord to save!
For when the rain falls, he will endure it all - standing firm in His grace!

REPEAT CHORUS

To give all that you are for all that He is - this is the Gospel according to Jesus

Supporting Scriptures:
"On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ Matthew 7: 22-23

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” Matthew 7: 24-27

"There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death." Proverbs 14:12

"Then Samuel said, "Is the LORD as delighted with burnt offerings and sacrifices as he would be with your obedience? To follow instructions is better than to sacrifice. To obey is better than sacrificing the fat of rams."
1 Samuel 15:22

"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." Ephesians 2:8
